Bryan Cooke died tragically on Friday, February 23, when he was shot during an attempted robbery while he and his father were working on homes for veterans in North Charleston. His father, Mike, was also shot during this tragic event. Bryan was the owner of Cooke Landscaping in Mt. Pleasant. He is survived by his wife Jenna, daughter Sophia, parents Mike & Lynda, as well as many other family & friends. We, along with many sponsors I will be adding to this page regularly, are honored to host this tournament to raise much needed funds for his family, as well as awareness of the rising violence problem in our area and nationwide. Teams of 4 can register at Mainland Container Co or email mary@mainlandcontainerco.com for a registration form. Check-in at Patriots Point Links begins at 9 am with a shotgun start at 10 am. Cost is $125 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, cart fees, scoreboard scoring, on course lunch & beer & buffet dinner reception. Prizes will be awarded for winning team, longest drive and closest to the pin at the reception following the tournament. Buffet dinner reception, awards ceremony & silent auction will be held immediately following the tournament with live music at Mainland Container Co. Dinner reception tickets can be purchased separately at the restaurant for $25. Anyone interested in sponsor information or wants to donate to the silent auction, please contact Mary at mary@mainlandcontainerco.com Tournament Sponsor - Island Coastal Lager Golf Course - Patriots Point Links
Live Music with The Blue Dogs! Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. On sale now at the restaurant or available online until April 22 or until sold out. http://www.citypapertickets.com/events/53536382/the-blue-dogs Charleston’s Blue Dogs, Americana Veterans, Soldier On In 2018 On 12/29/17, The Blue Dogs once again took over The Charleston Music Hall in their hometown to celebrate 29 years of making music. This show marked the Americana band’s fifth "homecoming" since their 25th Anniversary show in 2013, and to solidify it as an annual affair, the band brought in MUSC's Children's Hospital in 2014 as a charity partner. The show was again a sellout, and as in years past, the show included special guest appearances, this year featuring two legendary Carolina bands....The Connells from Raleigh NC, and Charleston's own Killer Whales! Also joining the party were Finnegan Bell (Warren Bazemore & Shane Williams), Peyton Tochterman, Leisure McCorkle, and Holland Teed. Thanks to a ever-growing group of sponsors and generous fans at the show--and to dollar-for-dollar matches by the Press On Fund and Shawn Jenkins--the event raised almost $190,000 for pediatric cancer research being conducted in Charleston at MUSC. Past shows have included Darius Rucker, Hootie and the Blowfish, Edwin McCain, Shawn Camp, Radney Foster, Pat McGee, Cary Hudson (from Blue Mountain), 2015 Georgia Music Hall of Fame inductees Drivin’ N Cryin’, SC native Sadler Vaden (guitarist for Grammy-nominated artist Jason Isbell), Doug Jones of Greenville SC’s Cravin’ Melon, acclaimed South Carolina singer-songwriter Danielle Howle, Matthew Mayes & John Felty of Brevard, NC's Jupiter Coyote. There have always been a number of Charleston-based acts involved as well, including Bryson Jennings, Uncle Mingo, Five Way Friday, Dangermuffin's Dan Lotti, Dave Dunning and Live Bait, Mac Leaphart, John Wesley Satterfield, Travis Allison, Carroll Brown, Charlie Thompson, and most of the former and current members of the Blue Dogs. Unannounced guests are expected each year. The band continues to perform in 2018 on a regular basis at venues everywhere including clubs, festivals, and colleges as well as for corporate events, private parties, and fundraisers. They continue to maintain an international fan-base, with all 9 of their recordings available through iTunes and other digital portals via their distributor, Redeye, and their CD's, DVD's and other merchandise offered exclusively at their website, www.bluedogs.com. 2018 marks 30 years since standup bassist Hank Futch joined forces with longtime friend, fellow Cub Scout, and acoustic guitarist/vocalist Bobby Houck under the band name “Blue Dogs".
