26.2 (26 miles and 385 yards) The first organized marathon was held in Athens at the 1896 Olympics and was originally 25 miles. At the 1908 games in London, Queen Alexandra requested the race start at the lawn of Windsor Castle and finish at the royal box at the Olympic stadium, the distance being 26.2.
