Description
Zoo Miami: One of the biggest, one of the most unique and, definitely, one of the best zoos in the world! Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only tropical zoo in the continental United States.
The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country.
Our animals are grouped according to their geographic territories, with species that live together peacefully in the wild placed in exhibits together here at the zoo. Our trees, foliage and even our soil are matched as closely as possible to the native habitats of our animals.

facebook.comThis is Swift, our female red fox. She sure LOVES to play with her squeaky toy (and food, too)! All this running around might just look like fun and games, but it’s actually part of her natural behaviors. Swift came to us after the South Florida Wildlife Center determined she was too friendly to be released back into the wild. That makes her a perfect member of Critter Connection, our children’s zoo, which will reopen soon! Our keepers are working with her behind the scenes for now to prepare her for participating in encounters and meeting people throughout the zoo! Are you THIS excited to come see her?

CUTE ALERT! This is Belle and Nala, Nigerian Dwarf Goats that were acquired through a new partnership with Florida 4-H Youth Development Program and the UF IFAS Extension Miami-Dade County. They along several other animals will be at our new children's zoo, Critter Connection! The entire area has been renovated to allow you to better CONNECT with animals here at Zoo Miami in a more intimate setting. We've got lots of new encounters planned, so stay tuned for details on the re-opening! Who's excited to see these cuties??
