#StaffPickSunday "Girl Waits With Gun" by Amy Stewart, is this week's staff pick, from Nikki in Youth Services. Nikki says of this historical fiction novel: "Kick-butt, turn of the century women are one of my favorite things to read about. The main character, Constance Kopp, is definitely not like other women living in 1914. From the book’s description, 'She towers over most men, has no interest in marriage or domestic affairs, and has been isolated from the world since a family secret sent her and her sisters from the city to the country fifteen years before.' She becomes the heroine of her small family when she starts working with the local police department to catch the menacing Henry Kaufman, and his goons, who keep threatening her and her two sisters. Many of the characters in the Kopp Sisters novels are based on real people, which makes these stories all the more interesting."
So proud of these staff members! Presenters at PLA on our Southern Appalachian Studies Center...
We've missed seeing these smiling faces around the library lately, but some of our team have been busy at PLA (Public Library Association) this week, learning all sorts of great new ideas to bring back to Blount County! We want to wish a hearty "good luck!" to our Southern Appalachian Studies team (Jennifer Spirko, Linda Marcus, and Brennan LeQuire) as they present tomorrow morning. Their presentation is entitled, "Growing A Regional Studies Center." We are very proud of them!
Thanks for the promotion, Daily Times! This Saturday, at 2pm, test your wits at our Video Game Trivia event!

Having a younger child with a high reading level can make it difficult to find books that are fun to read as well as ones that are appropriately challenging. Here's a list that might help if your 2nd or 3rd grader is an advanced reader.

There are so many exciting things happening at the BCPL this spring! We will be hosting a new bluegrass music club for all ages. This grew out of our popular Southern Appalachian Studies series, and we hope you'll check it out! Led by Josephine Cappelletti, Orchestra Director at Coulter Grove Intermediate School, the club will meet on the first and third Thursday of each month. There is a $20 music book fee, and instrument donations are welcome. The first meeting will be on April 5th from 6 pm - 7 PM.
