Heartburn is painful and disrupting, but the medications can lead to nutrient deficiencies, including those important nutrients for bones and brain health, and an increased risk for GI infections. Stomach acid can seem pesky but its very essential for digestion and fighting off invaders. It's always necessary to dig deeper - why are you having heartburn? It could be from stress, food sensitivities, an infection in your stomach or a hernia. Find out why since long term use of the medications are harmful as this informative (and short) story points out.
Why Organic Food Might Be Worth the High Price
Sure its more expensive, but organic food is better for you, the planet, and the farmers. Good read here on why: better crop yields, builds the soils rather than stripping it of nutrients from fertilizers, uses less energy, farmers earn more money (and they don't get poisoned), the plants contain more nutrients and less pesticides show up in children's urine (bonus!). Local farm CSA season is coming up quickly. Sign up for one in your community!

Check this out - coffee substitute made from Figs, and only figs. Completely caffeine-free but has the deep roast bitter flavor. Plus you make it like regular coffee. Nice alternative for those trying to kick the habit but love the "ritual" and taste. I added some hemp milk and it tasted fine, a little sweeter so no need for sugar. #cleaneating #nutritious

How Meditation Can Reshape Our Brains: Sara Lazar at TEDxCambridge 2011
"Meditation can literally change your brain", is what this neuroscientist says after her research. Fascinating stuff. I've had an off-and-on-again dating relationship with meditation and yoga. Fresh Thymes Eatery: 10 Steps for Making Bone Broth at Home
Did you know that yesterday was National Bone Broth Day? I didn't, but I did drink some. Here's a good recipe from my friends at Fresh Thymes Eatery. Adjust for your body - if you're prone to allergies or hives cook it for less time only 3-4 hours, otherwise you may get too much histamine. If you're prone to anxiety, skip the acid, otherwise you may get too much of the amino acid glutamate which can rev some people up. We're all beautifully individual! Either cook method, its a nourishing drink for the winter providing nutrients and warmth.

New dietary guidelines limit sugar, rethink cholesterol - CNN.com
Public health put out new dietary guidelines today. I commend them for recommending a reduction in sugar. The limit is now a sugar amount equivalent to "one Coke a day". Yes, better than 5 but I think we can do without soda completely. And they still hate saturated fats... come on! Research shows that saturated fats are not associated with heart disease. They are slow to pick up on that one, but cholesterol and eggs are ok again. It's confusing out there! A major thing I help my clients with is deciphering all this info and finding what's right for YOU!
