NHOLC has a new owner!

Many of you know that our family has a very close connection to Alaska and have maintained a home on the beautiful Kenai Peninsula for years. Recently, the Last Frontier has been tugging at our heart strings and we have decided it is time to move back to the land we love. Our scheduled departure is June 19th, and we will be posting videos on our new YouTube channel and Facebook page documenting our trip across the country and up the Alaska Highway. Once we arrive, we will post videos of our weekly hunting, fishing, and foraging adventures. If you subscribe to our YouTube channel or Like us on Facebook, you'll receive notices by email that we have posted something new. Here are the links: https://www.facebook.com/Destination-Alaska-1495429837167490/ and https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1RTB2n30ZUzsC-Sx4gS-3w Lots of you have been with us from the beginning and have been an integral part of our success. On behalf of Barb, Brandon, Chris, and myself, we humbly thank you for your dedication to the Outdoor Learning Center. You have become some of our closest friends. That being said, we are excited to announce that we have transferred ownership of the NHOLC to the Steven Sanborn family from Wolfboro. Steve is a retiring educator and an avid outdoor enthusiast with many years of hunting, fishing, and teaching experience. He is a licensed NH Guide and has completed all of our Certified Master Outdoorsman classes. He and his wife Toni along with their two sons are very excited to take over the NHOLC and work with all of you to make our classes even better. After this weekend's Wild Edible Plants class in Loudon, the new location of the school will be Wolfeboro, NH. where Steve and Toni have access to several large farms/parcels of land and many lakes, ponds, and streams to hold NHOLC classes. Please welcome the Sanborn family by sending them an email: Steve@nhoutdoorlearning.com Please keep in touch with us at JacksonsAlaska@gmail.com Sincerely, The Jackson Family

Wilderness Survival 102

The perfect weather this past weekend allowed our Wilderness Survival 102 students a great learning opportunity to spend the night out in the NHOLC woods learning advanced bushcraft techniques and really finding out what it takes to survive the night. With just minimal gear, they implemented comfortable shelters, safe water drinking techniques, tips for staying out of danger, night navigation, securing food, making effective tools and many more crafts were created to enable a comfortable woods living environment. It was great to see each and every student’s skill set grow with every task and challenge presented to them. It was a pleasure for the instructor's Marc & Sandy to spend such a great learning experience with such great people. Be sure to check our schedule for more survival classes coming up in 2017.

NHOLC goes North! Salmon, Fiddleheads and Blueberry Pancakes!

Faith, Family, Friends and the Great Outdoors are the foundation of the NHOLC and when you bring them all together on a north country fishing trip, the experience is second-to-none! My dad, George Tombarello, and I left at 2 A.M. on Wednesday for northern Maine on our annual Salmon/Trout and fiddlehead expedition. The official count was 12 Salmon and one Brookie on the first day and 7 Salmon on the second day. Given that ice went out up there two weeks ago, it was a bit early for the fish and a little late for the fiddleheads. Still a great time building memories with two people very close to my heart. A shore breakfast of hot coffee, blueberry pancakes and thick bacon topped it off. I hope you all are able to put together an extraordinary experience like this soon.

NHOLC Fly Fishing and Casting Class

When we ordered the weather for this weekend, we had no idea just how beautiful it would be. Wow.... NHOLC students and teachers had two great days of sun, and fly casting/fishing instruction. Many of these folks had never picked up a fly rod and by day two, were reeling in the Rainbow trout! Special thanks to New England Upland Hunt Club for allowing us to fish their trout pond on Sunday. Fly casting on the water while dozens of fish were rolling in front of us, added a mental challenge to stay calm and remember the basics. Not easy! Great job everyone.....good luck this summer using your new skills!

NHOLC Wilderness Navigation Class

Another amazing group of Navigation students joined us at the NHOLC yesterday. We spent the morning and early afternoon learning "all things" map and compass, and planning a very challenging hike for the last part of the day. Each team maintained precision accuracy though thick forest, swamps, and other limited visibility topography. We threw in a simulated emergency with an injured instructor and everyone performed an in field calculation to get us out of the woods fast. The results was amazing.... 4 feet from the original start point. Great job everyone!

The last three days at the NHOLC were filled with great hunting and fishing stories, outdoor knowledge, and practical skills training during our NH Guide School. This group of serious outdoorsmen worked hard all weekend getting prepared for state testing at Fish and Game. We look forward to seeing these folks in the woods and on the waters with patches on their sleeves. Great job everyone! Up next is our Spring Turkey Hunting class on April 15th. Last minute Ice Fishing on Winni.

Team NHOLC hit the ice on Tuesday for a final White Perch fiesta. Still 20 inches of solid ice on Winnipesaukee and plenty of fish for the fry pan. Sometimes when you forget your winter boots, you have to get creative..... my good friend George fished all day in crocs wrapped in grocery bags and fitted with creepers. I guess it is true....necessity is the mother of invention. LOL. To get a taste of White Perch from Winnipesaukee, stop by our booth at the Trinity Sportsmen's Event tomorrow (April 1st). Tim Moore is providing 30+lbs of fillets to be cooked at our booth. Tim Moore Outdoors will be stationed next to us so you come by say hello and taste test one of NH's finest fish. Hope to see you tomorrow!
