She's got legs part 2: so we were lying down and jumping for part 1. For part 2, we are in a dynamic bridge, essentially. The pedal is pretty heavy. It's a good amount of hamstring work, there's some butt-busting going on, and the ⚖ balance component is huge (oh, and did I forget the lats?) So, I guess in typical Pilates fashion, it's another whole-body deal. And, take note of how unsteady I am on the video on the right. Wow, this is why I do what I do❗️This gentleman came in after about two years of low back pain, specifically, spasms in his quadratus lumborum (QL) muscles. We have done two Pilates sessions, and I think we have tackled step 1: he already trusts his body more. He's so optimistic, and relieved he found a movement system that's helping. Step 2: getting him to live in a more efficient posture via continually cueing him on his pelvic, lumbar, and thoracic positioning throughout the entire session. Step 3: become a Pilates ninja and be like "oh yeah, I originally came here for help with low back pain?!" 👊🏻 #pilatesprinciple #stretchoutyourworkout #physicaltherapist #pilates #lowbackpainsucks #unwindyourspine

She's got legs, part 1: Being able to strengthen your legs while lying down is so interesting. It's a safe place to start, 'cuz if you can't do this stuff lying down, then you ain't ready for the fancy stuff yet (those are parts 2 and 3 coming soon😉). Jumping on the Pilates reformer gives you the option to substantially decrease the impact, and be in control of the load (top is 1 spring, bottom is 2). Then you can play with timing, speed, rhythm, different movement patterns, and coordinated breathing. All things you need to be able to adjust for soccer, basketball, tennis, or just simply walking...and I see a lotta ppl out there who can't walk efficiently. Stay tuned for the next couple progressions...

👣Feet week! If your toes and feet can't move, I promise 🙏🏼everything else up the chain is screwed. @themovementmaestro recently posted about having full ROM of the big toe (aka the hallux). Here's some of our faves for toe/foot/ankle/knee mobility and synchronicity. Gyrotonic Leg Extension Unit and Jumping Board to work on big toe flexion, and really strengthening the intrinsic foot muscles (could really feel them on the move in the still picture). Sometimes to get more big toe extension, you need to work flexion first. Like closing the stuck door harder before it'll open😉. Go people! Joe Pilates called his method Contrology. I always tell clients, if you make it look easy, then you've got it, AND ☝🏼️ if you're not wrinkling your shirt, even better 😉. The top version looks easier, but took way more coordination and control. The quick, sloppy way involves less control, more momentum, ineffective breathing, and too much scrunching. Get it right! 👍🏻
