Central/South Central Assistive Technology Center
Description
Regional AT Centers Provide Free Professional Development to School Districts in the Central/South Central Area. Assistive technology (AT) is an important accommodation in providing the necessary access to the general education curriculum and can be an effective strategy for improving individual student outcomes when applied appropriately. Technology is necessary for many students with disabilities to take full advantage of educational opportunities and to be included in the full range of programs and services offered in their classrooms and schools. AT is part of the "free appropriate public education" guaranteed by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It must be included, when necessary, in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Individual Accommodation Plans (lAPs) forstudents to realize the full benefits of their education and to be prepared for a successful, independent life after graduation from public school.
