Forgiveness is at the heart of what it is to be Christian. Jesus dying words were, “Father, forgive them for they don’t know what they are doing.” In fact forgiveness was one of Jesus most central themes. But what is forgiveness, really? How can we truly forgive someone who has betrayed or hurt us deeply? How can we forgive ourselves? How can we forgive God? How can we know what it feels like to be forgiven? For five Sunday evenings during Lent (February 21-March 20) I want to offer a chance to not only think and pray about forgiveness but also a chance to experience it. I hope to offer an opportunity for those who feel called to explore forgiveness a chance to begin to know forgiveness at a deeper level. We will meet from 4:00-5:30 pm in the chapel. For those who want to stay there will be a light meal from 5:30-6:00. And for those who want to be a part of a small group to further talk about forgiveness and offer one another support in giving and receiving forgiveness the groups will meet from 6:00-7:00. You can choose to come for the large group gatherings only, come at 4:00 and stay for dinner, or come for the whole evening. Whether you are a part of this experience or not, I hope you know the forgiving love of God in this Lenten season as we prepare to celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus on Easter.

Hey Pine Ridgers - Jim is off on Study Leave for the next few Sunday's so we'll be missing his blog! We were able to get a "teaser" from Rev. Mike Graves to give us a snippet of what he'll be preaching on this Sunday! ENJOY! ------------------------------------- Dear Friends of Pine Ridge - It's common in many circles, including the life of the church, to wonder whatever happened to the good ol' days, when churches were packed and were the cultural center of towns and even cities. This week we'll look at three parables from Mark 4, with a surprising twist about the place of Christianity and the Church in our world today, especially at a time when church memberships are dropping. I think you'll be encouraged. Mike Rev. Mike Graves, PhD Wm. K. Good morning! Please enjoy Jim's blog for this week! (He wrote it yesterday, but we're sure he still considers EVERY DAY Alex Gordon Day!) See you Sunday! Happy Alex Gordon day!! ------------------------- One of the best presents I have ever received from my family is the gift of a “Gordon” Royals jersey on my 50th birthday. I have been wearing it lately to conjure some good juju so that by some miracle the Royals could sign Alex again when the entire baseball world thought it impossible. I must admit that even I doubted, and I confess that I told my family in December that the Christmas gift I want in 2016 would be a Cubs “Gordon” jersey. When the Cubs signed an outfielder away from the Cardinals for a gazillion dollars, I feared that Alex might go to St. Louis. I would have even rather seen him in pin stripes starting for the Yankees than wearing a Cardinals uniform. God forbid! But God is good and my jersey (along with $72 million from the Royals) worked so that he will again appear patrolling left field at the K for the rest of his stellar career. Happy Epiphany! OK, so this is not really a picture of Alex as one of the three kings, as I am sure you can tell from my limited photo shop skills, but you get the idea. The Feast of Epiphany is traditionally celebrated on January 6 and is marked as the time of the arrival of the magi in Bethlehem. Most of our nativity sets have the wise men standing in the stable beside the shepherds celebrating the birth of Jesus in the first few hours after he entered the world. Actually Luke Chapter 2 tells the story of the manger, angels and shepherds. It is Matthew that tells the story of the star and the mysterious men from the east following the light to worship the new king. Matthew’s story suggests that Jesus might have been a toddler by the time they finally arrived. Luke’s story is of the poorest of the poor receiving the first birth announcement. Matthew’s story is of rich Gentiles far outside of Israel first receiving the celestial sign. Both stories foretell of the one born son of Mary, Son of God who would grow up to boldly break stereotypes and cross boundaries to include all in the good new-- rich and poor, Jew and Gentile, sinner and saint. Today is a day to celebrate gifts. Lord knows that with what the Royals are paying him, Alex could well afford gold, frankincense and myrrh. But it is a day to celebrate not only the gift of Alex but also the gift of you and I to the world. And it is a day to remember that faith is really about trusting that God is giving us as gifts to the world, and God who loves us is leading and guiding us even when we doubt and don’t believe it. What do you think? Peace+, Jim
