I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness. And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them, I do not condemn him, for I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world.

The works I do in my Father's name testify to me. But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father's hand. The Father and I are one."

"Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my Flesh for the life of the world."

Today is the Feastday of Philip and James, Apostles “The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, ‘Follow me’” (Jn 1:43). St. Philip was one of Jesus’ early disciples. Jesus called to him, Philip followed, and Philip invited Nathanial to join Jesus, too. Some Greeks came to him to be introduced to Jesus. According to tradition, St. James was the James the Less referred to in Mark 15:40 and was a prominent leader of the church in Jerusalem. These saints remind us that the Gospel is invitational and that Christ’s message is available for all mankind.

Memorial of Saint Athanasius, Bishop and Doctor of the Church “For God has not only made us out of nothing; but He gave us freely, by the Grace of the Word, a life in correspondence with God.” Today we honor Saint Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria in 4th century. Athanasius was incredibly bright, becoming a theological advisor at the Council of Nicea when he was still in his late twenties. He was ardent in opposing Arianism and defending the divinity of the Son of Man. Athanasius wrote many works on the Incarnation and the Trinity as well as The Life of Anthony, which helped define and foster both monastic living and the writing of saints’ lives.

"What can we do to accomplish the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent."

That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus' disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus... So he went in to stay with them. And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that, their eyes were opened and they recognized him. ____________ Whether our spiritual paths are; a beautiful garden walk, a steep and trying trail or seemingly slow broken white line road. He’s with us! Why?, because we have been baptized into the very family of God. And it’s when we come together around the table of the Lord that we get nourished with the love compassion and strength that will keep us going on our journey Home.
