We are so fortunate to have these smart, dedicated and talented people on our Museum Board. Carol Peterson worked for decades as Healdsburg High School librarian. Board President Ronnie Devitt had a long, successful career as an attorney and Phyllis Chiosso Liu worked her entire career as an elementary school teacher. In retirement, they bring so much heart and talent to their volunteer work at the Museum. We couldn't be happier to work beside them. #healdsburg #sonomacounty #localhistory #volunteer #boardmembers #healdsburglife #weloveourvolunteers #healdsburgmuseum

‘Homelessness Reflections in Art’ exhibit opens May 13

This weekend, Saturday, May 13th, between 4-7:30 PM, you are invited to the reception for the second annual art exhibit that focuses on homelessness: “A Place To Call Home," at the Paul Mahder Gallery, 222 Healdsburg Avenue. The exhibit will be on through May 22. “A Place To Call Home” continues to tell the stories of the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. It celebrates through art the successes of North Sonoma County Services while shining a light on the challenges that still exist and uses the transformative power of art to bring awareness and understanding to this vital issue. It also presents an innovative solution to transitional housing."

This imaginative early 1930s parade float depicted the City Slogan: "Healdsburg, the Buckle of the Prune Belt." Made by The Nut Tree, this float featured a giant goblet of prunes and prune goddesses encircled by a belt of prunes (with a center buckle). Elsie Passalacqua is pictured on the far right. The Passalacqua house on Fitch St. was featured on today's Healdsburg Homes Tour, so this post is in her honor. #healdsburg #sonomacounty #historicpreservation #localhistory #healdsburglife #prunes #passalacqua #sonomacountyagriculture #buckleoftheprunebelt #historicphotos

Today our Sonoma State graduate student intern Lauren Carriere hosted a memorable and lively research appointment with Ron Kron, Don McClish, Yvonne McClish, Joan Templeman and Jerry Templeman! This enthusiastic crew spent all afternoon researching the Kron, Sanborn and McClish families in the Museum archives. Their camaraderie lit up the whole Museum! Lauren patiently and happily helped them find all the research we had, enjoying every minute. Learning and laughter, can't beat that! #history #family #genealogy #healdsburg #community #healdsburglife #healdsburgmuseum #sonomacounty #localhistory #heritage #museumlife #sonomacountyhistory #mcclish #sanborn #kron

Healdsburg used to hold an annual spring "Flower Carnival" (aka "Floral Festival") in the early 1900s, as illustrated by this hand-colored photo taken by Mervyn Silberstein in May 1904. Visitors were met by a giant "Welcome" sign at the corner of West St. (now "Healdsburg Avenue") and Matheson St. The photo is a view toward north with the Plaza to the east. #healdsburg #healdsburglife #sonomacounty #spring #flowercarnival #1904 #healdsburgplaza #welcome #floralfestival #localhistory #festivals #healdsburgavenue #welcomespring

This Universal Peace Flag was designed in Healdsburg and promoted by Julius Myron Alexander before World War I broke out. A passionate pacifist, Alexander was a local leader in the nationwide antiwar effort in the 1910s. He wrote a poem to accompany this flag design. Editor of the Healdsburg Enterprise newspaper, Alexander later led the Healdsburg Business Men's Association (now Chamber of Commerce). An antiquity collector, local historian and poet, J.M Alexander was proud of his early Sonoma County pioneer heritage as great-nephew of Cyrus Alexander of Alexander Valley fame. #peace #ww1 #worldwar1 #1917 #alexandervalley #cyrusalexander #peaceflag #juliusmyronalexander #universalpeace #healdsburg #sonomacounty #localhistory
