CHIEF CARTER SAYS STUDENTS ARE SAFE AT DOWNEY ELEMENTARY Chief Thomas C. Carter says students are safe at Downey Elementary School following reports of gunshots in the area Tuesday afternoon. Police say teachers heard shots fired in the area of the school and placed it on lockdown to ensure students were protected. Harrisburg Police investigated the reports of gunshots near the school, and additional police were being sent to escort students from school when afterschool activities end around 6 p.m.

The City of Harrisburg and Capital Region Water recently posted the Select Playground/Park Renovation Project on PennBid (https://www.ebidexchange.com) to solicit bids for renovations to four city parks. The parks and playgrounds are located at the following sites: Royal Terrace, Penn & Sayford, Cloverly Heights, and Norwood and Holly. Companies interested in bidding may submit proposals for one as many of the projects as they would like. Officials will hold a pre-bid meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Capital Region Water’s conference room, 100 Pine Dr., Harrisburg. Although the pre-bid meeting is not mandatory, interested bidders are strongly encouraged to attend. Questions should be submitted through PennBid. MAYOR PAPENFUSE SENDS SPECIAL THANKS TO HARRISBURG VETERANS FOR THEIR SERVICE TO THE NATION Mayor Eric Papenfuse sends a special thanks to veterans throughout the nation, and especially to Harrisburg residents who have served our nation with honor. “As we commemorate Veterans Day, let us remember the great sacrifices our veterans and their families have made to protect our country and to ensure our freedom,” said Mayor Papenfuse. “Our nation would not exist without these brave men and women who have so nobly defended us at home and abroad.” Mayor Papenfuse extended special thanks to Harrisburg’s veterans and called upon residents of the City take time on Veterans Day to thank their friends, neighbors and relatives who have served in the armed forces. “We owe so much to their selfless sacrifice,” said Mayor Papenfuse. “Today and every day, let us remember to say the simple but meaningful words, ‘Thank you for your service.’”

"A Season of Giving" is theme of 2017 Harrisburg Holiday Parade - noon Saturday, Nov. 18 in downtown Harrisburg. This free parade will feature musical acts, floats, parade balloons and more. Food trucks will be available on Market Street between Front & Second Streets. Sponsored by Visit Hershey Harrisburg. Parking options for the parade will include up to 4 hours of free street parking using the “LUVHBG” code in your ParkMobile App and $10 special event parking at the Market Square garage. Following the parade, Strawberry Square will host the awards ceremony at 3pm. Santa and Buddy the Elf will be on hand to greet everyone who stops by. Complimentary cookies and hot chocolate will be available, while supplies last. Join us as we kick off the holiday season!
