Germantown United Methodist Church invites the community to hear guest speaker, Pat Morgan, author of The Concrete Killing Fields, on Sunday, September 24 at 9:40 & 11:00 am in the fellowship hall. Pat will speak on her experiences with homelessness in Memphis and describe the difficult balance that many advocates and social workers must strike in order to be truly helpful. By delving into the reasons behind homelessness, Ms. Morgan will address issues related to mental health, government policy, and our social safety net. Ms. Morgan wants more people to understand that underneath the grime and stench of the streets there is a person, not all that different from the rest of us. Germantown United Methodist Church welcomed Ken and Lisa Weatherford into the church family on Sunday, September 10th at the 9:40 worship service. Ken joined by transfer of his membership from a sister United Methodist Church in the Memphis area. Lisa will have an associate membership status at Germantown UMC while maintaining her membership at another UMC in the area.

Germantown United Methodist Church is offering a Parenting Workshop! PARENTING "GEN Z": NAVIGATING PARENTAL ROLES IN THE AGE OF SOCIAL MEDIA/INTERNET. The three-session workshop (September 6, 10, and 17, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.) will be led by Marriage and Family Therapist, Britt Palmer. This workshop addresses the concerns that parents and caregivers have regarding social media, access to the internet, and time spent using electronics. We will explore real life issues such as the experience of a child getting her first smart phone, a teenager who spends hours playing video games, and what the research says about the impact these activities have on brain development. Cost for the class is $15/adult or $20/couple. Free childcare is available for preschoolers through 5th grade by advance reservation.
