In August 1998, Jennings added its first apartment building to the campus: Jennings Manor. This residence provides 61 apartments for adults 62+ and was the first addition of "a long-range strategic plan to provide a full range of services to older adults." When Bishop Anthony Pilla was asked about this apartment, he replied, “It is obvious Jennings is a significant presence in Cuyahoga County, especially in the central southeast area, in the vital ministries it provides. Jennings’ enormous investment in new nursing services, coupled with its commitment to the needs of the elderly, make it an ideal sponsor..." #75years #history

This year Jennings celebrates its Diamond Anniversary! Join us each week as we look back and share unique photos, milestone dates and fun facts to commemorate these 75 years. If you don't have Facebook, visit our web site at http://jenningscenter.org/75th-anniversary for these updates. We start with our namesake, Monsignor Gilbert Patrick Jennings, whose vision led to the beginning of our mission. Monsignor Jennings was the founding pastor of St. Agnes Parish (then located on Superior Avenue near the old Cleveland Playhouse. Considered to be a socially progressive thinker, Monsignor Jennings was truly a visionary in meeting the needs of his people. According to diocesan historian Father Nelson Callahan, Monsignor Jennings was very insightful for his time. “He was always thinking bigger. He understood a lot.” Upon his death on April 17, 1941, Monsignor Jennings gave life to a new era services. Having inherited a large sum of money from the estate of his brother, Monsignor Jennings designated in his will that a "rest home be built." What has evolved in his memory is a full continuum of exceptional choices in residences and services. Monsignor Jennings’ legacy of love continues today through a ministry with steadfast dedication, innovation and excellence; one that inspires and celebrates life. Sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Spirit, we remain true to Monsignor Jennings’ vision of a vibrant and compassionate community with the familiar feeling of home. Through every era of the Jennings story, we remember the valued leaders and mentors who made possible the evolution that is Jennings today. The long tenure of Jennings’ leaders has been responsible for the solid foundation upon which our mission grows. From the early decades when the Sisters of the Holy Spirit were at the helm to the transition of the management role to lay leadership in 1991, there has always been careful planning and foresight in developing the next generation of leaders who would steward our mission. Through their example, they have transformed, inspired and guided the organization. Each has left their legacy of a deep sense of purpose and compassion for the work we are called to do.
