#HappyPresidentsDay -- FUN FACT: Honest Abe made two railway stops in Erie. On Saturday, Feb. 16, 1861 President Lincoln rode a train into town. He stopped to have lunch and do and an interview at the station. After shaking hands with many of the local citizens, he made a few remarks. The only words he spoke that were recorded were: “When the time for speaking, fully and plainly, comes, I trust I would say nothing not in accordance with the Constitution and the laws and the manifest interests of the whole country.” Sadly President Lincoln's second stop in Erie was on this funeral prcession on his way home to Illinois in April of 1865. {This painting was done by local artist Patrick Mazzone for The Brewerie At Union Station to commemorate those stops. It is permanent display at the pub}
