After a successful first year, South Country School District is proud to announce the continuation of its Dual Language Enrichment Program at Brookhaven Elementary School. The popular program features an enrichment model of bilingual education that uses two languages for the purpose of instruction. Classes are held at Brookhaven Elementary School and are composed of half native Spanish speakers and half native English speakers, with instruction in both Spanish and English. Congratulations to the Bellport High School Robotics Team, who competed for the first time in the FIRST Robotics Regional Competition at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. Competing against teams from all over New York State and around the world, Bellport earned 17th place out of a field 66 teams!

Brookhaven & Bellport High School PTAs recently sponsored a 5K Race and Family Fun Run this past Saturday, April 9th. Special thanks to all who volunteered, sponsored and/or participated! The proceeds of the Fun Run will help benefit students at Brookhaven Elementary & Bellport High School. We hope to continue this annual event and look forward to working and running together next year!

The District will be hosting a Grand Opening of the Family Engagement Center on Friday, April 8th at 4pm. Located near the Administration Bldg on Dunton Ave, the opening will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, a tour of the center, a list of current offerings and a group discussion to increase community involvement. Brookhaven Elementary School’s Emergent Bilingual Leadership Team held its first annual “Read Around the World” event, with community members reading a story from their culture and sharing their family’s heritage. Brookhaven was one of ten schools selected statewide and the only school on Long Island to receive a professional development grant to partner with CUNY-NYSIEB (New York State Initiative on Emergent Bilinguals).
