Brilliant Detroit
Description
We create kid success neighborhoods by providing a place for activities and support so kids are school ready and families are healthy and stable. Who We Are
We are Brilliant Detroit! We partner with families, neighborhoods, community organizations and businesses to mobilize services that empower families with young children in the areas of health, education, and family stability by providing place-based connections to resources. We envision a future where family services and systems are aligned and children have the environment and opportunity to thrive.
What We Do
Brilliant Detroit is bridging the access gap, combining people and place and providing the supports and services families need, right in the middle of a neighborhood. Inside a renovated home, just blocks or doors away from where families with young kids live and play.
Why We Do it
54% of Michigan’s young children are not attending preschool, which helps prepare them for kindergarten
More than 59% of Detroit children lived in poverty in 2012 and are eligible for programs and services that will really support their families’ success
Thousands of Detroiters go without access to powerful programs that could have a positive impact on their lives.

February is National Children's Dental Health Month! Did you know that a healthy well balanced diet not only helps kids stay focused during the day but it also helps keep their teeth cavity free? Here are some foods you can incorporate into your child’s lunch to stay focused and cavity free: Fresh fruits and vegetables: Such as baby carrots, grapes, apple chunks, and orange sections. Dairy products – Milk, low fat yogurt, and cheese are great choices. Protein – Turkey, cheese, or peanut butter are good choices for a sandwich. Water – Fluoride water a great choice. Drinks such as soda and sports drinks can contain a lot of empty calories and high levels of sugar which can cause tooth decay. Toothbrush – Brushing after lunch is a great idea, but even a quick rinse with water can reduce the amount of sugar left behind on the teeth.

The creative arts have been shown to foster the development of children’s cognitive abilities. Exploring and participating in creative play triggers the use of kids’ imagination, which in turn stimulates and expands their mental capacities.
