It's Tech Tuesday! Time to meet another member of the Production Department team: Stage Manager Maya Severson. There’s no denying that Maya is full-on perky. What keeps her so perky? Her explanation: “At least 16 ounces of coffee enter my system before arriving to work.” Some of the perkiness must be inborn, though. Although Maya admits that she can be clumsy (having broken three bones, torn four ligaments, and chipped a tooth in the past three years), she claims that she’s always having a great time. She says that she can do almost anything one-handed, stating, “It’s a skill I developed when I broke my wrist, and continued to practice because I don’t like to put down my coffee.” Maybe her perky spirit springs from her love of animals. Maya says that “All animals are my children.” She has three cats named Jasper, Duchess, and Bukowski, plus one Great Dane/Lab mix, Olly Wolly. Like many large dogs, Olly thinks that he’s a lap dog. He regularly gives Maya a bruising because he doesn’t know how big and powerful he is. No matter where it comes from, though, we’re glad that Maya has brought her perky exuberance---along with her stage management skills and expertise---to the MC Production Department! Some additional fun facts about Maya: *** Percentage of her wardrobe that’s black: Surprisingly, not much of Maya’s wardrobe is black---only about 30%. Apparently shoes are a different story, though! *** The other Hamilton: Maya’s prize possession is a stuffed pig named Hamilton (photo below) that her cousin gave her when she was two years old. She’s taken him all over the United States as well as the world. Hamilton’s foreign travels include Calgary, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Lucky pig! *** How it all began: Maya started with theater at the Woodland Opera House when she was nine years old. She remembers, “I was destined to be a world-famous actress---but in 8th grade, I developed a crush on the stagecraft teacher at my high school and traded acting for the technical.” *** “Blame It On Love”: The first professional concert Maya can remember attending was Los Lonely Boys and Santana at Arco Arena in September of 2004. “My mom was a huge fan. It was fun.” Look for other members of the Production Department to be featured in upcoming posts. DJF #techtuesday #mondavicent
