Posted on March 21, 2018 Reminder: Stop the Bleed Training Class on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 Stop the Bleed is a nationwide campaign to empower individuals to act quickly and save lives. Davie Fire Rescue Department is continuing their Stop the Bleed campaign by providing another free training class on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at 6901 Orange Drive, Davie, FL 33314. The class can accommodate up to 30 people. It will demonstrate how to stop severe bleeding and provide hands-on CPR training. To register, please contact Davie Fire Rescue Administration at 954-797-1213. No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes; therefore, it is important to quickly stop the blood loss. Get Involved - Call 911. Be aware of your surroundings, and move yourself and the injured person to safety, if necessary. Bystanders can take simple steps to keep the injured person alive until appropriate medical care is available. Here are four actions you can take to help save a life: Compress – Hold steady firm direct pressure on a bleeding wound. Tourniquet – If the direct pressure does not stop the bleeding and the wound is on the arm or the leg, apply a tourniquet above the bleeding site and tighten until the bleeding stops. Compress Again – If the bleeding still does not stop, compress again. If the wound is on the neck, shoulder, or groin, pack the wound with bleeding control (hemostatic) gauze (preferred) or any clean gauze. Apply steady firm direct pressure. We hope you register for this free class and learn how to stop the bleed. YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE. https://www.davie-fl.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=222
