Raven Smith and Emma Smoczynski both grew up in Illinois and have a lot of love for Chicago. They also both came to Mizzou for new experiences and they credit the university for helping them flourish as young adults. Raven Smith, a sophomore in the University of Missouri School of Health Professions, is the founder and CEO of clothing line turned movement "Straight from the Go." Emma Smoczynski came to Mizzou for undergrad to pursue journalism. Upon discovering other opportunities her focus shifted to public policy. In honor of Valentine's Day here is one of our favorite #MizzouMade love stories. While attending Mizzou, John Logsdon, BS PA ’63, a white man, fell in love with fellow student Gloria Newton, ’63, a black woman. At the time interracial marriage was illegal in Missouri. They have been married now for more than 52 years.

Last September, #MizzouMade alumnus David Novak & his family announced a $21.6 million gift to the Missouri School of Journalism to establish the Novak Leadership Institute. The goal: create a world-class program to develop the next generation of leaders who make a positive and meaningful impact in their organizations and communities.
