Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games
Description
The Utah Summer Games is a festival for athletes of all ages and abilities. Since 1986, the Games have been held in Cedar City, Utah with an average total of 9,600 participants, 50 thousand spectators, and 1,000 volunteers in attendance each year. The Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games was founded on a unique vision. One that became a reality due to the many hours that countless individuals have sacrificed to make the games successful.
In 1984, Gerald R. Sherratt, then the President of Southern Utah State College, created the idea behind the Utah Summer Games. At that time, many people were driving through Southern Utah to head to LA for the Los Angeles Olympics. Sherratt felt that this was the opportune time to finally put Southern Utah on the map. Thus, the Utah Summer Games was born.
Surrounded by several national parks and the beautiful scenery of Southern Utah, Cedar City would become the home to the summer games. Since 1986, thousand of athletes have flocked to Southern Utah to compete in the Utah Summer Games.
Leaving behind a great legacy, Sherratt created a rich tradition that has and will continue to be celebrated for years to come.
