Austin is the home of Hormel Foods Corporation; both its corporate offices and flagship plant are located here. Austin is also home to The Hormel Institute. Founded in 1942, the Institute is currently in the process of expanding to 200 researchers from all over the world.
Founded on the old Territorial Trail, on the south banks of the Cedar River, the county seat of Mower County now stands at the junction of highways U.S. 218, which runs north and south, and Interstate 90, which runs east and west. These provide easy access to the city from all points.

Hormel Nature Center Interpretive Center, 1304 21st Street NE, for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
