John A. Lau Saloon is Alpena's Oldest Historical Saloon. Serving both Lunch and Dinner At 120 years old, John'a'Lau Saloon remains one of the oldest buildings of historic downtown Alpena. Known for its ghost, Agnes Lau (former wife of the owner John Lau back in 1892), the restaurant attracts multitudes of people looking to enjoy the history of her story. Historic artifacts from 19th century Alpena adorn every inch of the Saloon walls. Many enjoy a Michigan brew while taking a step back in time. So whether a proud Alpena native or a curious traveler, stop in, eat a delectable meal, and let the wait staff tell you haunted stories of the original John'a'Lau Saloon.
