National Apprentice Week has come to an end; let's celebrate all the amazing individuals who are past, present and future apprentices. Ben Brunsdon, 27, is a third year mechatronic apprentice. He grew up just a stones throw from where the EMC is now based. ”I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but really enjoyed practical problem solving and fixing computers and bikes, I even used to play football near to where the facility is now built, so when I saw they were looking to recruit apprentices I thought it would be a great opportunity. “I’d done a few admin job previously, but nothing that you could call a career, so that what really appealed to me about applying to the apprentice scheme, as it offered me a long term career. I spent my first 20 months at college, but have not transferred to the EMC, to do on the job learning, which is absolutely fantastic. “Being here, it’s great to work alongside so many knowledgeable people, which helps me to progress. There are so many opportunities for coaching and development, it’s a great environment in which to learn. “I’d encourage others to apply for an apprenticeship, for me, it’s opened up so many different possibilities, as we get to experience lots of different areas of the facility, working with different teams. It’s a really fluid environment, which is, one of the reasons I like it so much.” #nationalapprenticeweek #futuretalent

Ashley Hopwell is in the second year of his six year degree apprenticeship at the EMC. He was recently recognised as EEF Apprentices and Skills Rising Star and lives in Derby. “I come from a family of mechanics, my dad and two of my uncles own their own business and my grandad was an electronics engineer. I’ve grown up taking things apart and fixing them, so it meant that I knew what I wanted to do at quite an early age. “The degree apprentice programme supports me being able to work and study concurrently, I spend one day a week at college, with the other days at the EMC, involved with various different projects. I really like being able to study and apply what I’ve learnt so quickly in my job. Throughout my apprenticeship I’ll get the opportunity to work in lots of different areas of the business, I’m on a placement in the reliability and maintenance team at the moment, which I’m really enjoying. I think this process is really important as it means once my apprenticeship comes to an end, I’ll not only have a degree, but six years of experience at Jaguar Land Rover in lots of different areas. “One of the things I really enjoy about the apprenticeship is the environment, everyone wants me to succeed, so I feel really supported and trusted.” #nationalapprenticeweek #futuretalent Jaguar Land Rover Careers

Wolverhampton born and bred, Sam Robbins, 27, is a fourth year mechatronic apprentice at the EMC. He is currently working in the facility’s petrol assembly hall. “I was ready for a career and Jaguar Land Rover offered great opportunities for individuals on their apprentice programme. They were interested in the experience, skills and behaviours you could bring with you, so it wasn’t just about recruiting school leavers, which for me was brilliant, as I was 23 when I started the programme. "Jaguar Land Rover is a globally recognised brand, the apprenticeship programme has given me a chance to learn new things and one of the best things has been the exposure to so many different teams from across a broad section of the business. “I’d definitely encourage others to apply for an apprenticeship, it’s given me practical skills to support my job, as well as built my confidence.” #nationalapprenticeweek

We're recognising some of our fantastic apprentices #nationalapprenticeweek and getting their thoughts on what it's like to work at the facility. Charlotte Growcott, 23, is a fourth year mechatronic (technology combining electronics and mechanical engineering) apprentice at the EMC. She is currently working in the facility’s diesel assembly hall and lives locally in Wolverhampton. “I followed the usual route through school and completed my A ‘Levels before starting work in a fast food restaurant. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but then my dad saw an advert for Jaguar Land Rover apprenticeships and I thought it sounded like a great opportunity. “I didn’t have any engineering experience, but I was reminded after I applied and started my apprenticeship, about conducting experiments to light-up circuits at a really young age. I was the first one to complete the circuit and my teacher told my mum that I’d be working in some sort of practical industry.” “The apprenticeship programme offers me great career opportunities, it’s a fantastic stepping stone to go further in the business. I really enjoy being part of a team, every day is different and I’m constantly learning new things. It’s great as I’m earning while I’m learning. I'm able to learn whilst being in a live working environment; gain news skills and interact with lots of different people.”
