Langel Probus Club in Witney
Description
Langel Probus Club The Langel Probus Club is a social club for retired and semi-retired men with a business or professional background. Some Members have lived in Witney or nearby villages for much of their lives, others have moved into the area on their retirement. The Club provides an opportunity for retired men (and those approaching retirement) to meet like-minded fellows.
> We meet at the High Street Methodist Church, Witney from 09:30am ntil around 11:00am on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month.
> We enjoy listening to a wide variety of speakers and on the fourth Wednesday there is occasionally an optional lunch, to which partners are invited, at a local restaurant or inn.
> Our social programme includes visits to places of interest and entertainment, and occasional gatherings at lunchtime and in the evening. Partners and guests are encouraged to attend, but the degree of participation is entirely up to individual members.
Though most newcomers are introduced by existing members, this is not a requirement and anyone interested in joining is invited to contact the Secretary.
Aspirant members may attend three meetings before deciding whether to commit to membership.

facebook.comOur annual "Mince Pies" at Bradwell Village Hall. Not a bad turn out on a cold and icy morning. Members and guests were in good voice but (as we have found before) the acoustics in the Hall are strange. Nevertheless this indicates the spirit of the occasion. CW
On 15 November 2017 member Bob Macfarlane arranged an excellent visit to the Hook Norton Brewery. After coffee we met the Shire horses before climbing with our guide Andrew to the top of the 'tower' and down again, following the process of brewing and admiring the equipment and architecture (and the view if we peeped through the louvres at the very top). We were given a connoisseur's guide to the different styles of Hooky beer, with a taster glass of each if we wished to try them. Finally a sociable lunch set us up nicely for the return to Witney

John Henty hands over the President's Gong to Colin Wells (wearing a tie for once!) who will be our President for 2017/18. Colin reassured the members present that he will only wear a tie for ceremonial occasions.

Our birthday cake maker's birthday wishes
At our annual President's Lunch our President John Henty gave the Club a special Birthday Cake and our very oldest member Alan was invited to cut the first slice. The splendid cake was created by https://www.facebook.com/StarcakesLongHanborugh/
Today, 27 September 2017, we welcomed new member Brian Brent. Brian is still in the process of 'settling in' at our wonderful town, but we are confident that he will find it as delightful as we do
Our visit to Gloucester was briefer than planned because of a crash on the A40 that blocked the road and forced a diversion (the Pulhams driver superbly negotiated narrow lanes and a water-splash). But the Cathedral tour was excellent and the Boat Trip good fun made even better by a witty and informative commentary.
