Our aim is to deliver an affordable, quality, fun, and lasting self defence learning experience that immerses you in reality-based scenario training; building confidence and assertiveness through our professional Instructor level coaching, and helping you become fitter and stronger.

COMBAT EVOLVED is a community empowering self defence initiative that puts the confidence and pride back into the hands of the individual, the family, and the neighbourhood; developed to both help prevent, and raise awareness of potential violent crime to oneself and our loved ones.  We actively promote co-operation and support for the Police and other emergency services, the national Crime Stoppers service, and are partners with Wishaw Crime Prevention Panel.

COMBAT EVOLVED's "Krav Maga Close Quarter Combatives" is a reality based personal protection and street-aware self defence training system incorporating a mixed martial arts syllabus of Israeli Krav Maga and Haganah, ground survival, Western boxing, elements of traditional martial arts, weapon defences, and tactical knife fighting. We are grounded in the modern day close quarter tactical and adaptive fighting techniques used by law enforcement, security forces and protection operatives that we have experienced first hand.

We offer a selection of both scheduled self defence classes and course events that will appeal to different people, abilities, or work/service backgrounds, and we welcome both beginners and experienced fighters from other systems.  We are also happy to provide private and bespoke coaching to groups and individuals.


Our Senior Instructor Chris Allan draws from a mixed martial arts background of over 30 years experience, and currently operates in the private security sector as a bodyguard.

Toying with some ideas for Thursday nights Fighting Fit class and came up with this little gem. Your challenge for today is 30x of these Belgian squats which are done on one leg at a time, and is a great natural body weight routine to build and tighten leg muscles. I suggest doing 10x on one leg, then change sides. Do this 3 times to make up 30 reps. Use a table for light-touch balance rather than gripping onto it, or alternatively you can hold a partners hands to assist you. 1) start by standing on one leg, with the other bent at the knee and horizontal to the back. 2) slowly lower yourself down on the single leg until the toes of your back leg touch the floor. If this is too low for you just lower yourself to a comfortable managable point. 3) hold for a count of 3 4) slowly raise yourself back up to the starting point, pushing up on that one leg. 5) repeat to complete the 10 reps on that one leg, or whatever number you can manage. 6) if 10x reps it too high for you, start with 5 reps, and build yourself up to higher numbers over time as the exercise becomes easier for you. ⚠️ always be cautious about physical exercises if it's not something you're used to, and seek medical advice if in doubt.
