TWCtennis
Description
Wimbledon's premier private tennis club. The tennis section of The Wimbledon Club has been located in Church Road since 1890, some 32 years before our slightly more famous neighbour, the "All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club", relocated from Worple Road.
A complete range of tennis abilities and ages can be found at the club, from the mini tennis courses, starting from around age 5, through to our most senior players. From beginners through to world class players.
The grass courts in the summer months provide a superb playing surface. Nothing beats the pleasure of playing tennis on the grass courts on a summer’s day with play extending into the long summer evenings. The modern clubhouse, with balconies overlooking the tennis courts, provides the perfect place to relax and enjoy the unique setting of our wonderful club.
The indoor sports hall (all year) and airdome clay courts (3 are covered from October - April) provide welcome relief from the winter weather. For the finer evenings there are floodlights.
The club runs an annual club championship from May to September, when members compete for splendid historic club trophies. The honours boards in the clubhouse provide a permanent record of the champions’ names.
The top club teams compete regularly at the highest levels. The more mature members regularly compete at the highest levels in the senior inter-club and individual tournaments. Several members are ranked very highly at international level.
