Vets4Pets
We have had some interesting cases ourselves over the years! Wool, fish hooks, glass shards from a Nutella jar, needles, whole stuffed toys, stones, a small rubber man from a kiddies party bag, socks... We've seen all sorts and removed them surgically, or via endoscopy if possible! In certain cases, we have been able to remove by a gloved hand or forceps if stuck in mouths or bottoms! Be vigilant for pets eating things they shouldn't, especially those who like to scavenge!

Red's run in with a tractor
As everyone else was getting excited for Christmas, Red was causing a stir in his household. He was out and about, playing rather vigorously, when he slid under dad's stationary tractor! He let out a yelp, which alerted his owners to the problem. They found a wound on his back, so brought him to us right away. When Red came to see Maria, she examined his wound, and found it was so much bigger than his mum and dad had realised! There was a huge cavity underneath the skin which has been caused by the tractor's trauma. This large flap of skin could have easily accomodated several hands (we have spared you those photos!) He was admitted immediately for surgery to repair this giant wound. A major concern with any wound like this is how healthy the tissue/skin is going to remain, and with such a large cavity, there is always the risk of fluid forming under the flap. During the surgery, Maria placed two large drains to help with this, and he wore a special medical shirt to protect his wound and drains. We also performed K-Laser on his wound to speed up the healing and to provide extra pain relief. He has done absolutely fab during his recovery, and his wound healed brilliantly! Well done Red, for being such a good patient, but stay away from those tractors hmm? :D
