Activities ranged from Football, dodgeball to a film afternoon on the beanbags. As it says, the clubs are totally child led, if they want to do an activity they can. A fantastic training camp this week with our under 12s Elite Group. After a tough week of training they today went to play against Nottingham Forest. After some tough sessions in the week and a lot of football it was an incredible way to end the week winning the one 9v9 game and drawing the other. The manner in how the kids played was absolute first class and we can’t say how proud we are of them. Adding to this 5 players have been enquired about and invited into NFFC. Movements in football are very rarely on two feet which is why in our SAQ drills we tend to practice single leg (unilateral) leg movements. In this drill we have hoops on the ground, the player had to plant there foot in the hoop and push off in the opposite direction. The player then received a ball, played a 1/2 pass around the manakin, dribbled through 3 cones and played a pass in a mini goal ⚽🥅 When pushing off of one foot we are encouraging the player to deeacel and then quickly accelerate off in a different direction - the quicker the player does this then the faster change of direction 🏃🏻‍♂💨 To make this change happen quickly, we encourage the players to get low as they change direction (absorbing the forces produced from their sprint). Once they have stopped, immediately extend their leg, hips and ankles, to produce the power to sprint again and push off. Things like running and change of direction mechanics are really tough things to coach especially in teens. This is because over their life they have developed their own running techniques 👣 the best way we try to help the athlete break these habits is by repetition! These things need to be addressed on a regular basis as there is no quick fix. Our clients who need this type of work get around 10-15 minutes a session to practice these. We would like to say a huge Congratulations to one of our long term one to one clients Charlie for being offered a contract at Championship club Derby County. We can not believe the strength of the young man, determination and passion to play the game. Every week rain, sun or shine.... and even a lot of snow lately! Charlie comes to each session and just keeps improving week in week out! We can not say enough how proud we are of him and how he is developing not just as a footballer but as a young man. There will be a range of different activities from outdoor games to indoor activities and a movie afternoon for all the children. After continued success with our Under 11/12 Elite Group. We will be holding an open trial evening to anyone that would like to attend and join our group on the opportunities we aim to give. Our group have already experienced opportunities at Aston Villa FC & Derby County FC, with more games in the programme for the up & coming year. Our group come together in a training block prior to games and train together during half term weeks throughout the day. We as a group of coaches believe we offer not only the best but also a wide variety of new training methods that are already benefitting our players. Locally we have more contacts within the professional game then anyone else to ensure all of our players get the opportunity to perform at the top level. Are movement patterns important in players from a young age? Too many times we see that players don’t work on movement patterns, or these professional clubs don’t seem to see it as an importance from a young age. We feel that if you can help youngsters from a younger age work on these movement patterns that are relative to the game it will help them in years to come and give them a good foundation to build on. A simple little drill here with One of our under 12s Ethan. Incorporating quick little feet, lateral movements, jumping and landing mechanics as well as ball work, twisting of the hips to receive a pass, reactions when a colour is colour as well as changes in tempo and speed. A lot to take in for such a short drill? Preparation for our summer programme has began and we are looking at our busiest summer yet!!! ☀️⚽️ Next week we will be using the half term to put on sessions for all of our clients that are on the waiting list so we can cement slots for the summer. Take a little look at one of our Under 10s Ihsan in his weekly one to one session... We are really targeting Ihsan to work on twisting his hips, to open his body up so that in a number 10 position he can receive the ball side on and look to play forwards. By doing this he has that decision in a game do i play forward? Dribble forward? Or do i keep the ball, by being side on and able to see the game it allows him to do this. If you notice very quickly before the ball arrives at his foot Ihsan has a quick glance of his shoulders when he twists his hips so that he can see what is around him. Something we didn't even need to prompt him to do or ask of him!! By having the two goals at angles they replicate where the two through balls would be for his on coming wingers runs. By adding a simple little dribble in before he does these movements just helps him to get extra touches on the ball and takes his thoughts off the drill being the same repetitive movements over and over again.
