So... Over this weekend I have seen a lot on social media regarding novice athletes and novice competitions. As a promoter I think they are a fantastic gateway into the world of Strongman for athletes and fans alike. It gives the opportunity for athletes to perfect their skill set and get used to the competition environment, however it should not be the end of your journey in Strongman if you are wanting to progress and better yourself as a strength athlete. For fans it's a first hand look at the world of strongman where people like themselves are lifting weights not out of the realms of possibility and therefore can inspire them to take up the sport also. The general rule amongst promoters is that once an athlete has placed (1st-3rd) in a novice then these athletes should move up to inters/ opens or a weight classed competition. From a promoters point of view we (most of us) try our best in screening the competitors who enter the competitions, however it should be up to the athlete to be open and honest about their competitive history. Once you are no longer at novice level then you should move up to the next level in the sport!!! Due to the rise in popularity of strongman/ women, the number of competitions has increased greatly and the jump from novice to opens is not as daunting due to the number of weighted comps or inters level comps. Therefore, there is no excuse for athletes to continually enter novice comps with the different avenues on offer. If you feel like you are not strong enough to enter then spend some time in the gym and get stronger!! Rant over and see you November 12th 😎

Busy couple of weeks for North East Strongmen and Women, especially Sunderland based athletes who are competing in numerous shows up and down the country. - This weekend sees some of the PFC ladies competing in the North West Strength Expo in Manchester. - The Wolsingham show has a team competition and an u105s event across the weekend. - Next weekend sees a few athletes from the region, including a PFC athlete, going down to Rotherham to compete in Yorkshires Strongest Man. So if you are in any of these areas or stuck for something to do over these weekends then go and show your support for Strongmen/women. As a follow up to the previous competition announcement As this will be a novice competition we want to make it as fair as possible, therefore anyone who has placed in the top 3 of a previous Strongman comp* will be declined entry. We have some ideas for 2018 so there will be a chance to showcase your talents on a Sunderland's Strongest promotion. * Athletes who have placed in a first timers comp can still enter. Thanks
