As well as numerous school visits, our branch was invited to meet the boys and leaders of 1st West Kilbride Boys' Brigade. As well as enjoying the chance to try on uniforms, respirators and helmets, the boys enjoyed hearing a number of stories and anecdotes about the team's experiences in uniform. The boys will be on parade on Sunday as part of West Kilbride's Remembrance service
There is a small gathering today at Saltcoats war memorial at 11am. On Sunday, the parade meets at Saltcoats Labour Club at 10.15 for 10.30 as they head down to the memorial. There will be a Remembrance event at Stevenston cenotaph at 1.30 on Sunday as well.
We received the following message so if you know any Cameronians then please pass this on: "I'm looking for some help for a trio of old Cameronian Malaya veterans to track down any surviving comrades of theirs from that Campaign. Raymond Kelly, Norman Niven and Dick Gilmour would appreciate any help. Normans request is below. Update on the 1st. battalion Cameronians, who served in Malaya, 1950/53, after a talk with Dick Gilmour, i decided it was best to contact the Daily Record, to find other veterans who served there, they are doing that. so far the only names i have is Dick Gilmour and Norman Niven the get together will be held in a Motherwell Hotel, with a meal, Thanks to Douglas Torrance for his help, anyone know any names please contact me, 01698 294524. It is now over 60 years since the 1st. Battalion Cameronians left Malaya and I would like to arrange a reunion with any men who served with the Battalion there, have a meet up with a meal (my treat) and to talk over old times, any help in contacting former veterans would be appreciated.
