Sir Josiah Mason Trust
Description
Sir Josiah Mason Trust focuses exclusively on providing top quality affordable housing accommodation, and support & care services, just for older people.
The Sir Josiah Mason Trust is the trading name of our three separate registered charities:-
1. Sir Josiah Mason’s Almshouse Charity (Registration No. 209283)
2. Sir Josiah Mason’s Care Charity (Registration No. 1073755)
3. Sir Josiah Mason‘s Relief in Need & Educational Charity (Registration No. 1073756)
The Almshouse charity was originally founded in 1868 by Josiah Mason a Victorian philanthropist, born in 1795 in Kidderminster. He built the Josiah Mason’s Orphanage and Almshouse but when the need for the orphanage declined in the 1960’s the land was sold and further accommodation for the elderly was built. Today the Almshouse charity provides over 160 homes for elderly people, principally in sheltered housing in Olton, Shirley and in Erdington.
But operations expanded over the years and we now also provide a number of mobility standard flats for elderly people who have physical disabilities. In addition, there is an Extra Care Housing scheme for more frail elderly people, a domiciliary services team, and a fully Registered Care Home, but this is administered and controlled by the Care Charity.
We also now provide much needed temporary respite accommodation with 24 hour care in Alexandra Court.
The Sir Josiah Mason Almshouse Charity is also a Housing Association registered with the Homes and Communities Agency and the Housing Ombudsman. Our Care & Domiciliary Services are fully registered with the Care Quality Commission.
The key characteristic of the Trust is that we specialise only in providing quality housing and care solutions for elderly people and we are told by our residents that we do it well.

We were delighted to hold our Care Services Open Day again this year at Alexandra House and Alexandra Court, our Residential Care Home and Extra Care schemes in Olton, Solihull. We are very proud of our schemes and on Saturday 20th August 2016 we opened our doors to the public and welcomed visitors to spend the afternoon with us to see what we are all about. Entertainment was provided courtesy of ‘Vintage Class’ (a 1940′s style singing group) and by a musical motivation specialist who regularly visits our schemes. Our Catering Manager, Patricia Hines, put on a delicious afternoon tea which was very much enjoyed by all of our visitors. The new Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mr Mike Robinson and the Mayoress of Solihull Mrs Jenny Robinson attended our open day this year and photos from the event can be seen below...
