facebook.comStaff from BAM plant and the Midlands office joined forces to create a third garden kit project in the grounds of Greenfield Primary school in Kettering. Staff and pupils from the school will use the newly created raised beds to grow plants for the RHS Spring Festival school garden challenge at Malvern Three Counties Agricultural showground, starting in April 2018. The garden project would not have been possible without the support of all the BAM plant staff and trainees behind the scenes who worked on the build up to the project, painting and cutting timber to length, carrying out repairs and painting existing play equipment on site. Special thanks go to AkzoNobel who continue to support our #BAMenhancinglives challenge.
The site team at Three Snowhill in Birmingham recently hosted twenty two students from Oxford Brookes University. The students are studying real estate management and had a tour of the Three Snowhill marketing suite before visiting the site to view progress. Rebecca Gee from Oxford Brookes commented, 'Thank you again for the site visits you ran today'. 'It was a fantastic experience for the students and already it is starting to help them understand the complexity of development and the whole delivery of buildings'.
Staff from Birmingham City Council, Cambourne children's home, BAM Plant and staff from our Midlands office joined forces to create a specially designed kit garden in the grounds of Cambourne children's home in Birmingham. The 2017 RHS Spring Festival schools gardens have been judged to be the best ever by the RHS judges. Twenty one volunteers from across the BAM businesses helped make the 'Space' theme one of the most interactive shows with the highest percentage of recycled elements since the competition started in 2006. There were 14 entries this year, (the second highest number of schools and community groups we have had enter) and there was even an International school entry from Russia! The results were excellent and we have had numerous discussions at the show with people from all over the UK who are looking to take part in 2018. Thank you to the local businesses who helped out with their local schools, lending a trailer, lending a pair of hands, lending tools and helping to remove the gardens at the end of the show. A special mention goes to Airduct Controls of Droitwich for supporting Regency High School with waste sheet metal which was transformed into a great centre piece. Thanks also go to Jon Stone and the gang at Malvern Scaffolding for 'lending' the schools scaffold battens to help surround the gardens and help give them height. BAM plant saved the day with a delivery of pallets which formed the basis of several gardens including highly commended Franche first school and we must not forget County Building Supplies in Malvern for helping Beoley first school with materials which were shared amongst several schools including Ridge Academy who built their garden from skips and donated elements, including a water pump from a local garden centre for their water feature. We managed to raise over £1,000 for Clic Sargent through sales of the schools brochures and this is on its way to help the work of the teams fighting childhood cancer and Leukemia, well done to all the pupils and helpers at the show as we smashed last years fundraising total and we could not have done this without you. With well over a 1,000 pupils engaged in the show this year, this was a huge community effort and we could not have done it without the help and support Chris Collins, the Three Counties Agricultural Society, their staff and Paul from Alchemy Gardens for his patience with the soil improver! The results of the judging can be found on the RHS website https://www.rhs.org.uk/shows-events/pdf/Malvern-Spring/2017/school-garden-awards.pdf To find out what went on behind the scenes, visit the Three Counties Agricultural Society education facebook account https://www.facebook.com/Three-Counties-Education-1887848654834541/ Look out for more community activities throughout 2017.

The RHS Spring Festival, supported by teams of Bam staff from across several regions and businesses, including Bam Plant and Bam FM, starts on Thursday 11th May 2017. 14 schools, including an international school from Russia, are awaiting the results of todays judging. The team of judges will announce the results of the RHS along with awards from the Campaign for Rural England and three special Bam awards at 12.30pm in the main Festival marquee. This years entries are some of the best we have seen produced and contain the highest percentage of recycled materials, as schools fully embrace our sustainability ethos. Here are a couple of completed projects to look out for, Franche First School and Beoley First School with their pupils ideas for a 'Space' themed garden, complete with an appearance from R2D2.

More volunteers from across the UK have joined Midlands staff at the RHS Spring Festival volunteering opportunity in Malvern working alongside 14 schools, including a school from Russia. We have three days to go before the RHS judges award their marks by interviewing staff and pupils from the schools about their initial brief and how this has been incorporated into the final plot. The space theme has resulted in a very different approach by each school with astronauts, spaceships and planets included amongst the gardens. Staff from BAM FM joined staff from our head office and western regions to help construct spaceships from recycled materials including pallets and catering baked bean tins, collected from our schools run by BAM FM!

Midlands volunteers have been busy helping 14 schools with their RHS Spring Festival projects at the Three Counties Agricultural Society Show Ground in Malvern. The gardens are 'Out of this World', as schools aspire to become 'Highly Commended' at this years show. Each school has taken a different approach to the space theme including planets, films, history and the solar system We are currently into day three of the build and thanks to Air Duct Designs, we have our first space ship, made completely from recycled metal ducting for Regency High School in Worcester. We also have some famous faces, from out of space, in the Beoley First School Garden. Our teams have been trying their hands at setting out and have also demonstrated their carpentry skills. More schools and volunteers are due to appear in the coming days, one thing for certain, this years show will have the highest percentage of recycled materials - look out for Malvern Wells First School, we have seen a sneak preview and WOW. #bamcommunities
