Who says a working spaniel can’t be trained to walk off lead through the woods ( or anywhere for that matter)? Joe Cocker comes out on my rounds and stays at heel until told otherwise. Rabbits, Pheasants are no problem, we encounter plenty but Joe doesn’t put a foot wrong. No treats necessary and definitely no ball under my arm, just sensible dog training. Gives me a happy dog that’s a pleasure to be with 🐶😊👍

After some basics the Malinois puppies practice a double recall with nice control. Started training at twelve weeks and by the time they’re 13 weeks they’re now getting the hang of obedient behaviour 😊

Take the time to read this, I always advise against neutering too early.

First classes of the New Year today and a great turnout with some lovely puppies as well as our regular clients. Just a quick update to let you all know that regular Puppy Classes are held here every Sunday at 12 noon for pups from 12 weeks old onwards (MUST be fully vaccinated). A "Good Behaviour" class follows at 1.15 pm for older dogs that have been assessed and had some basic training here, the emphasis in this class is on calming down any reactive/aggressive/nervous dog and developing dog handling skills for pet owners. Always happy to help new clients to rectify any sort of behavioural problem so if you're having trouble controlling your dog message me and we can get things on track. Well done to all who attended today, especially the new pups and owners, See you all next week!

Wishing all clients and friends, old and new, a very Merry Christmas and sincere thanks for your continued support. I’m sure Conan’s owners won’t mind me posting this picture of him but he sums up just what we’re all about which is making each dog as well behaved as can be so that owner and dog can have the happiest relationship possible. I wish you all peace and happiness this Christmas and always. Looking forward to helping more dogs and owners in 2018. Ian Griff’ 🎄🍷😊

We are still here getting on with our sensible, no nonsense good behaviour practice for all breeds/types of dogs. “Experts” are springing up all over the place but it takes genuine experience to be able to bring aggressive and reactive dogs to a calm and level state of mind, and very importantly, do it in a humane way that doesn’t mask the problem and end up making it worse! If your dog is badly behaved around other dogs I can help bring him safely under control and develop handler confidence to the point where you no longer have to avoid other dogs. Weekly classes and private lessons available, just message for details 😊

Our Rhyker certainly isn't wasting any time in his new career with Lancashire Constabulary!

Boston here is behaving impeccably during his time at my house. He’s waiting patiently while I make myself a cuppa. He came because he showed some oid aggression and “resource guarding” behaviour but is now the epitome of a good canine. I see quite a few of his “breed” (no disrespect to the owners of designer dogs), that show this type of potentially dangerous behaviour. I believe the potential for this is inherited but I believe more so that it is allowed to develop and even nurtured by way too much emotion and affection when these fluffy puppies are brought home, loved to death and never effectively shown right from wrong. They may be overwhelmingly cute to some people but that is no excuse, if a puppy snarls at you then something is wrong and it needs to be addressed before he bites someone not after. Very often it’s miscommunication between puppy and well meaning, but emotional, owner. In Boston’s case he just accepted that rules apply and he’s now more than happy to follow them. Calm handling, not too much affection (which just makes him nuts) and he’s the perfect pet. Now at my feet as I enjoy my tea and crackers, he’s great company on a wet and windy afternoon 😊

Update on the Tuesday evening class with Nick!! I'm sorry to say that our Nick has been diagnosed with a chest infection and therefore will not be available to take his obedience class again this week. He assures me that his antibiotics are working and he's starting to feel better so I'm sure you will join me in wishing our best instructor a speedy recovery. Get well soon Nick! 👍
