180 - Tony Byrne
Tony was born in the mining village of Woodlands Nr Doncaster in 1943. Educated at the local RC school until the age of 15. Art was the only thing he got praised for at school but he didn't realise then how he would feel about it later. It was in the 1960s while serving in the Army in Germany that Art blossomed into his life making him realise signing on for another stint in the Regiment wasn't for him. But he didn't take the plunge until 1980 that's when he turned professional. To make a working living at this new profession he had to be very versatile. Portraits, landscapes, caricatures, animal portraits, artist impression for builders, contemporary scenes, abstract designs and passing his knowledge on to others in the form of art lessons. Tony has painted and created many different paintings,in many styles and of a lot of different subjects over his career and he has enjoyed every moment. But in the 1980s he realised that he had a burning desire to re-create in paintings moments from four of his teenage years 1957 to 1961. Tony had an exhibition of these paintings in 1987 at Cusworth Hall Doncaster. he painted 31 small mixed medium works that he calls his Figurative/Abstract creations.
