2016 Race Report – 10 years on The Muddy boots 10k is school fundraiser for St Wilfrids Primary in Ripon. The race concept was first put into practice in 2006 by Jo Hope, Marie Marsten & Fiona Ransom, all St Wilfrids parents, starting from scratch to build up the event. As their children moved on to secondary, the race was then handed over to existing & current parents Anneke Imeson & Miles Curtis. Local running Club Ripon Runners also play a big part with many members helping behind the scenes, marshalling or running the race. Then there's the all important refreshments team, a group of our parents who help out on the day, baking cakes, buns & biscuits, serving bacon sandwiches & hot beverages to hungry runners & spectators throughout ….So many people pulling together to help the event run like clockwork. Over 80 lovely children took part in the Fun run, all starting to run just as the rain arrived although it didn't dampen their spirits with so many beaming smiles around the school field. It was won by previous St Wilfrids pupil Callum Mitchell, with 1st girl Millie Lock The 10k was won by a Harrogate Harrier Andy Grant who's supported Muddy Boots from the early years in a cracking time of 35.10 1st Lady was Heidi Dent from Howgill Harriers who broke the ladies course record in a stunning 39.10 Our last runners are just as important as our 1st runners so big congratulations to Sarah Birks from Sheffield who finished with a big smile in a tidy 1:27 This year, being the 10th Anniversary, was a sell out 10k entry of 500+ for the 3rd year running which is amazing for a local school race….. Every penny raised from the race is ploughed back into school to benefit the children in a huge capacity & as school fundraisers can become somewhat monotonous, this one reaps its rewards as its now become a major fixture on the running calendar. So, on behalf of the school, the parents & the children I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has raced over the years, enabling us build our race to its biggest yet. Over & out! :-)
