One is an ideal tracking studio, featuring a 12 channel 1970s Neve PSM console (1081 pre amps), Pro Tools HD (including a flagship Prism Dream ADA-8 converter), a good selection of outboard and a broad stock of high end microphones (including Neumann, Coles, AEA and Earthworks). The main live room has a high vaulted celing and a lovely acoustic tone which has been honed to give you clear, accurate recordings without losing the character of the room. It's perfect for anything from drums to brass to vocals. The second live room contains a Yamaha C6 concert grand piano which is beautifully maintained to produce exceptional piano recordings.
The second studio is a mix / comping / editing room and ideal for any other Pro Tools work which does not require tracking facilities. Equipped with a pair of Spendors SA500s, this room will give you a completely true representation of your mix and also has a selection of outboard including a Chiswick Reach and a Clariphonic. Between the two studios you have everything you could need to write, record and mix a record using the highest quality equipment in the most relaxed and beautiful setting.

**NEW** to the Retreat equipment list, a pair of Millennia SST-1s! These amazingly transparent and versatile pre amps are switchable between solid state and valve on both the input and EQ stages. As used by Bob Dylan, Herbie Hancock and Lenny Kravitz as well as many other artists/producers at the highest level, these are basically the best solid state pres around! Absolutely stunning on vocals and piano, which we've been tracking through them today!! Come and hear them for yourselves at the studio!

It's been a great year at the studio,Paul Kimber & Phil Merriman album "Duos, Duets and Duels" Paul and Phil rise to the occasion on this album, beautifully recorded at Ovingdean’s Retreat Recording studios. Kimber’s facility with a bow adds an extra voice, which helps vary the texture, but the strength of this recording lies in the care he’s taken on the compositions and arrangements. After what seemed like years of searching, we have been able to purchase this original Neumann UM-57. It's a large diaphragm valve condenser with a classic M7 capsule. These mics are very hard to find! It's the sister mic of the famous U-47 and in recording we've found it has all the character of the classic Neumann 47 but slightly tighter sounding. We've been using it this week to record Warren Ellis (musician) and Nick Cave for a new film score. When combined with our new Millennia STT-1 (pictured below) it produced a sensational warm smooth sound on multiple instruments, including vocals. Arguably the most revered Pre-amps of all time! - "The REDD.47 timbre can be heard on pretty much everything recorded in Studio 2 at Abbey Road Studios between 1964-68, including virtually all The Beatles tracks from this period"
