I am a professional saddle fitter and complete any type of tack fitting which can be done from my own stock to checking the fit of clients existing tack. I offer a second hand saddle finding service and a bespoke, tailor made saddle development service.
From an early age as keen rider and field sportsman, I have used the very items I specialise in. I hunted with the Holcombe hunt for several years and competed frequently in many different equestrian disciplines. Having been an avid field sportsman, gamekeeper and shooting tutor, I have a customer’s perspective on the items I make or repair.
In addition to equestrian and country items, I can also produce and repair different types of leather items. I have had many unique requests over the years and work closely with my customers to develop and produce exactly what they require. This has ranged from repairing a favourite pair of riding boots, development of a unique anti poll pressure bridle to leather work on a vintage car. I have salvaged many favourite handbags for grateful owners.
I provide a saddle fitting and a saddle checking service for the following:
- Fitting of new bespoke saddles supplied by me
- Fitting of new and second hand saddles provided by me
- Fitting of new and second hand saddles from other sources
- Checking of saddle fit as a result of change of horses shape, behaviour or simply if the owner wants general piece of mind on tack fitting correctly.
- If a saddle has sustained damage and needs to be checked
Saddle fitting costs £40.00 per visit and then additional for flocking adjustment or other work undertaken. If the saddle is purchased from me the fitting is inclusive on the occasion of purchase.
Saddles are made in width variations as horses come in different shape and sizes, so do the people who ride them. Sometimes when a horse changes ownership and comes with tack a new owner may not always know if this tack has ever been fitted professionally to the horse. This need for saddle fitting and adjustment can also be required if a horse has changed shape due to level of work or feeding. People often think that once a saddle is fitted that is the only time it requires checking and fitting however over years or even months a horse can change and therefore a saddle may be rendered ill fitting and of detriment to the horse and rider. Whilst the main riders size and preference are taken into consideration the main aim of a saddler is to ensure that the saddle is correct for the horse.
