THE Ulster Unionist Party have selected local community activist, Diana Armstrong, to replace Rosemary Barton on Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, who was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly in May. Mrs Armstrong is a Fermanagh native and a former employee of the EU Commission of European Communities based in Brussels and Strasbourg. She has a keen interest in local affairs as well as local, national and European politics. Party leader, Mike Nesbitt, MLA, said Mrs Armstrong was just the sort of person he wanted to attract to public service. "I know she will work for the benefit of the people of Northern Ireland. I look forward to Diana's contribution to making Fermanagh and Northern Ireland a better place." Diana Armstrong added she was delighted to accept the appointment as councillor for the Ulster Unionist Party in Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

PSNI are continuing to investigate a further series of malicious communications to schools across Northern Ireland today, including Omagh County Primary School. The school was evacuated this morning. "At this stage there is no information to suggest the incidents are terrorist-related, however enquiries continue to establish the facts. We continue to investigate who is responsible and whether these incidents are linked to similar calls made to seven schools earlier this week," said a police spokesperson. Anyone with information should contact police on the non-emergency number 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
