Oldmeldrum Golf Club
Description
Oldmeldrum is an historic golf club: the game has been played here for 125 years. However, its outlook is modern and, here, you will find all the facilities you would expect of a thriving, 21st century golfing venue. COURSE GUIDE
Golf has been played on Oldmeldrum’s undulating parkland for over 125 years. Located 18 miles north of Aberdeen on the A947 Banff road and 5 miles east of Inverurie the course affords panoramic views of Bennachie and the Donside countryside. The course originally consisted of 9 holes but was extended to its current 18 hole layout in the 1980’s.
A par 70 course, measuring just over 6,000 yards, it presents a varied and challenging test of golf for all standards.
The course affords a forgiving tee shot, but a more accurate approach is needed to make your way round on a score you will be proud of. Good putters will be rewarded as they hole out on what are often described as some of the best greens in the area.
The club’s signature 14th dogleg hole takes its inspiration from the large stone, aptly named ‘The Groaner’. Using it as the club emblem, it is said to date back to the early 1300’s the time of the Battle of Barra. The Earl of Buchan defeated by the Army of King Robert the Bruce, is said to have been heard groaning behind this stone at the loss of his troops.
