So close yet so far! On the afternoon of the 23rd July at 4pm the club played their annual cricket match against the York Club of the Great Park! The teams seemed evenly matched and so it was to prove. Batting first the York Club got a very impressive 152 runs in an extended 25 overs game; the extra 10 overs due to the earlier start, being a weekend! Before picking any individuals out I must say the club played with a wonderful team spirit and all put in a great shift bowling and fielding. In fact, the fielding seemed of a higher standard this year and there were some really good catches even if we didn’t know how! But well done to all of you! However, there are stars Hannah, Nigel and Bob were the pick of the bowlers, with Barry and Jason having little cameo roles. Now the run chase? Luke and Loz opened as usual and gave us a strong steady start, Loz was bowled, that bought the wade brothers together, once again as last year, magic stand tilting the game in favour the club with great 25’s.N.O apiece! Jason and Barry got in and got out trouble, but with Matthews, Jason’s brother, the run rate picked up again and had our pulses racing again, but to no avail finishing 15 runs short! Every year we seem to get closer and closer, maybe next season! I know I say that very year, but you never know! Now for a word about our back-bone of the side, our supporters! Thank you all so much for your wonderful support, the York Club was really rocking with Old Windsor’s family and friends. Thank you for making it so enjoyable for the players, support means everything in sport! Hope you all enjoyed the evening? God bless Ralph
