Dream Big Ghana - Roots Reggae Party
Dream Big Ghana benefit night – Friday 23 June Every year, the school aims to fund-raise to build at least one compost toilet for the Dream Big Ghana community, both through elective deposits and sponsored events. The next event is our Roots Reggae Party on Friday 23 June at Spanky Van Dykes. Our lovely second year students, Daisy and Dani, are organising this and we have three of Nottingham’s top reggae DJs doing this for us as a benefit. It's going to be a great night, so please along and bring your friends – both staff and students are welcome! Anyone who has Ghana dresses/tops/trousers, this is your chance to show them off again! We’re also looking for volunteers to help on the door and with the stall, so let linda.east@nottingham.ac.uk know if you can help.

Our nursing elective students, who recently returned from Dream Big Ghana, witnessed the grand opening of the toilet built with the funds we raised through the Robin Hood Half Marathon in 2016! Great job, everyone - it’s wonderful to see all our efforts come to fruition, so a huge thank you to our sponsors.

The Bridge Network
The Bridge Network is up and running! Students and staff have launched The Bridge Network, to support the mental health and wellbeing of students studying within the school. It was set up in recognition of the specific challenges faced by people studying to be healthcare professionals, and aims to set up peer support groups led by student peer facilitators; meeting with each other and providing a safe space to gain support and talk about mental health. The Cascade Fund has pledged £6,000 towards the initiative if the Network can raise £1,000 through Jumpstart, the University’s crowdfunding platform. If you would like to make a donation to support this fantastic project, please follow the link to our crowdfunding page:

Life Cycle 7 - A message from Raman Minhas, Senior Executive (Healthcare): “As you all know, this year Life Cycle 7 is supporting the Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre (CBTRC). Our son, Aiden, is a patient of CBTRC who helped launch Life Cycle 7. Here's a short video describing the amazing work done by Professor Richard Grundy (children's neuro-oncologist), Mr Donald Macarthur (neurosurgeon), and the whole team at the CBTRC. Please support the amazing work being done at CBTRC. The help you give supports vital research so other kids don't have to suffer as much.” If you'd like to donate, here's a link to our colleague Christopher Bailey’s just giving page - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/drcbailey. Chris will be undertaking a 170 mile cycle ride this coming weekend to raise funds for CBTRC. All donations are greatly appreciated.
