White Watch welcomed the 124th Nottingham Scout Woden group last night! Harchie in particular had a fantastic time being taught Fire Safety and having a look around all our Fire Appliances and trying on some of our Protective fire kit! Thank you all for being so well behaved and enjoying your visit with us!
Last night, along with our colleagues from West Bridgford, Highfields attended a serious house fire. Fortunately the family had closed their internal doors which had protected their escape route. They had NO working smoke alarms and were only aware when one of them woke to a ‘popping’ sound. Closing their doors undoubtedly saved their lives but smoke alarms would have notified them way before any popping sound! Would you risk hoping to wake up to a fully developed fire that ‘may’ make enough sound to wake you up?? Or wake up to a smoke alarm that does wake the whole family the instant it detects smoke! Please make sure you have smoke alarms fitted! 🚒 (picture courtesy of the internet)...
Yesterday our Rope Rescue specialists decided to put their skills to the test! All the way at the top of a 55 metre Wind Turbine! 😳. We simulated that one of the engineers had suffered an accident and needed rescuing! After climbing to the top we successfully rescued our casualty (fortunately this was only a dummy this time) utilising our Rope Rescue training and safely lowered our casualty to the ground for EMAS to take over! A great training exercise that really tested our rope skills within a very different and challenging environment! 💨👩🚒💨
At Highfields we are a Technical Rescue Station, which means that not only do we have a Fire Appliance that deals with fires, road traffic collisions and many more general incidents, we also have a Specialist Rescue Unit that deals with more intricate rescues such as Water Rescue, Heavy Rescue (HGV's) and Rope Rescue, along with many more specialist incidents! Here is one of our White Watch members practising their Rope Rescue techniques 🚒👩🚒
