facebook.comGrand day out yesterday in Dorset at Wessex Lowlines open day. Great to catch up with David, Sam, Geoff and Nick. Two years ago we went and were so impressed we now have our own.
So yesterday we moved a little way along the coast from Mooloolaba, Queensland and stayed in Noosa so that we only had a 40 minute drive to meet Christine Hine of McIntosh Creek Lowlines. After tea and cake and a good old natter we went and had a look at the cattle. Christine breeds both Black and Red Lowline Aberdeen Angus. The cattle looked well considering they are in a drought at the moment and are on hay. With the temperature reading 31 degrees it shows how tough these cattle are, the only 31 Wales gets is cms of rain in a week. Unfortunately with a three hour drive back to Surfers Paradise ahead of us we had to leave with ideas and a new friendship forged. Thank you Christine it was great to meet you and no doubt see you again sometime. Sorry David Maughan she checked the car for any stowaway!
Just a few more photos from the Vale Show on Wednesday. Should have had 1st for best turned out team at least!
Some photos from The Vale Show yesterday. Another great day well spent getting these cattle out there. Got 2 2nd and 3 3rd places, which considering it was the first time the judge had come across these cattle was an achievement in itself. Then it was like bees around a honey pot as the public and other farmers came to ask about these great cattle.
Taking a rest.
Kelly Lakin leading 16 month old Glamorgan Kelly in readiness for Vale Show on Wednesday.
Last to calve, to Wessex Daisy, a heifer, Glamorgan Eleanor. So that's 3 heifer's and a bull.
It's been 30 plus years since I sheared sheep and like riding a bike, you never forget. Aching today a bit though. Teaching @Sam Lakin and Ben Nurse to shear as well, big thanks to them. Barbara rolled the fleeces, Isaac Haine caught the sheep. Sarah and Kelly Lakin made the tea and supplied the pasties. Abley supported by Samantha Nurse , Martin and Mark Palmer on mustering. Thanks guys job well done!
Put the latest calvers out to join Crystal and her big boy Glamorgan Jethro, can't believe how much he's grown in only two weeks. After an hour Glamorgan Abby decided to play hide and seek, if she didn't have an eartag you would have a job to find her!
Another arrival this morning, Glamorgan Ziva, a heifer for Wessex Calista. Ziva was up and feeding before the after birth had cleared and spent the next hour charging around like a racehorse. Thats what you call "htting the ground running".
New born bull calf Glamorgan Jethro was put out to grass with his mum Alta Crystal yesterday, with Glamorgan Jenny to keep them company. Today saw the arrival of Glamorgan Abby, a heifer to first time calver Wessex Esmerelda. After an unsure start Esmerelda is getting the hang of being a mum. Two down, two to go!
Sorry Murray she's one of yours! Alta Crystal is of course the mum to Glamorgan Jethro.
