Last evening I experienced a brilliant show at Davenham Theatre. The (albeit small) audience could not stop applauding the ingeniously talented Matt Rothwell & Ben Moores. If you are free this evening we have seats available for the Edinburgh fringe preview of Absence of Separation. If we were in a metropolitan area the theatre would be packed for such an opportunity.... £8 (Students £5) Theatre Ellipsis presents: “Absence of Separation” by Ben Moores & Matt Rothwell John has had an accident and is fighting for his life. It all comes down to this moment where everything seems possible as he teeters on the verge of his possible annihilation. Time has slowed down and everything is at stake. Guided by a mysterious stranger he takes stock of his existence and wonders if his life has added up to anything much at all. A new dark comedy drama about searching for meaning, punctuated with physical theatre, spoken word and live songs. It tells the story and delves deep in to the minds of the two characters, ready to either redefine themselves or give up on life altogether. The two men form an affinity: delving in to existential philosophy, arguing about the surreal absurdity of life, fighting for their own beliefs, questioning everything, dissecting their dreams, finding infinity in a plastic cup and almost losing their minds. It takes this mundane and seemingly melancholic place…inhabited by characters that society would deem as “average” and through their own imaginings they dares to touch the hem of the robe of infinity. The play touches on Vedanta Hinduism, Zen Buddhism, spirituality, contemporary society, depression, consciousness, psychology, dreams, addiction and fairytales. Cast - Ben Moores & Matt Rothwell
