Sclerotherapy is an injection procedure to treat thread veins. The procedure involves injection of a sterile solution (called a sclerosing solution) into the small veins using a very fine needle. This solution irritates the vein lining causing it to eventually disappear. What are thead veins? Thread veins are most common in women in the age groups 30-50. WHY TO MASSAGE YOUR FACE EVERY DAY We all know that good skincare regime is important if you want to keep your face looking as young and beautiful as possible, but in addition to the products you use, you should also be thinking about how a massage a day could improve not only your appearance but also your overall health. In an article for Nylon, Jenna Igneri explored the concept of daily facial massages and learned how to perform one on herself, as well as how it can help. She visited Brooklyn Herborium in the US to find out more, and discovered that a thorough facial massage can aid everything from your circulation to your digestion. The idea is that you work on specific energetic points on your face, which in turn send “positive messages” to your internal body systems. As well as encouraging general good health, it also “helps the lymphatic system flush toxins out of the facial tissues, which improves the appearance of saggy or puffy skin”, she explained Master aesthetician Emma Graves talked Ms Igneri through the process, which can be performed simply using your fingertips. However, she added that you can introduce other elements to your routine, such as by using your favourite face cream, moisturiser or oil mixed with water to enhance the experience. Of course, not all of us would feel comfortable with this – and some of us might need more of a pick-me-up if we’ve not always had a good skincare routine. But that’s where Hifu facelifts can come in, to make your skin look fresher and younger and to give you the boost you need. Another cosmetic procedure trend to watch this year includes what’s being called prejuvenation – which means having preemptive anti-ageing procedures to prevent the need for more invasive options later in life.
WHAT IS A VAMPIRE FACIAL? PRP (platelet rich plasma) facials are all the rage, with many women turning to this technology in order to improve their skin. There is a large amount of growth hormone in your blood plasma, which can help to rejuvenate the skin. How do you get hold of the blood plasma you may ask? Well from your own blood of course. People who are used to donating blood will be aware that their donated blood can be used as it is or the plasma can be separated off, which actually has some of its own uses in different treatments. So, to get this facial, your cosmetic surgeon will have to take a sample of your blood, and then will place this in a centrifuge to separate your platelets and plasma. This plasma will then be injected into the skin on your face, which can be numbed with an anaesthetic cream. There are some side effects that can be caused by the procedure, such as bruising and swelling. You may need to take the following day off to let this go down (as this journalist discovered), and this can be helped along with using moisturising creams and ice. There can be come pain and itching with the recovery process but these can be managed with antihistamine and painkillers. If you want to have a vampire facial then you will need to find a qualified practitioner to do it, as due to the blood extraction and injection, this requires some specific skills.
