Professor Debbie Archer gave a talk on ‘First aid for horse owners’ last night for the clients of Oakhill Veterinary Centre. They had a fantastic turnout enabling £436 to be raised for Debbie’s chosen charity, the Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust. A big thanks to all the horse owners who braved a cold wet evening to learn about various equine emergencies and to the team at Oakhill for organising this.

A message from Ryan's owner... "A long overdue update on a patient you treated 20 years ago. Referred to Leahurst by Campbell at Nantwich with a suspected twisted gut. Bucket loads of sand was removed from his gut as a 5 year old and (dare I say it out loud?) has never coliced since! Now 25 and in retirement as a bit stiff these days. This was taken at around 18 years old on a fun ride - of which we enjoyed many. Have been meaning to send you a picture for your notice board as I remember being in the waiting area reading the notes you had pinned up there, and that gave me hope. We will always be eternally grateful for the care and skill of your team as well as those at Nantwich"

Another success story.... "Hello! I thought you'd like an update on a horse you treated 3 years ago - and gave a guarded prognosis for return to work. Chiquita came as a 5yo with a DDFT injury in her forelimb and kissing spines. She was quite lame and had a period of box rest and controlled return to work. Later, (2014) she was diagnosed with PSD in both hinds and treated via surgery at Hird and Partner and slowly came back to work. She's now 18m post op and out competing at Prelim level dressage, working Novice at home, she's about to go out and do her first Novice test. Thank you so much for your support and treatment!"

Jay is an 11 year ISH gelding that presented with large colon displacement in February 2015. He was managed medically initially but his condition deteriorated and required emergency surgery. During the surgery the large colon was emptied and replaced in the correct position. Jay has done very well since surgery and is now back in full work. Another great success story!!
