This very welcome surprise arrived while I was away. I am proud to report passing the notoriously difficult exam! 🎉😅.

So True! A friend just posted this real world example and it resonates loudly. I have been thinking recently about how shockingly out of step the United States is from the rest of the world in how employers are allowed to treat new parents and their little ones. Absolutely shameful. Let's publicly recognise businesses that are highly supportive, and look to other countries for guidance on what works in creating a kinder, more family-friendly society. This is where "family values" starts, right? Valuing our families at all levels?? No employer should have to be forced by law to help people have a window of time to get to know their new baby and recover from birth without huge added financial and emotional stress. It's something employers should do because to NOT offer that time is simply cruel and inhumane and bad business. (**hops off soapbox**) :)

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding helps reduce the risk of breast cancer. Really important that women hear this more often!

So far I am loving being back in the USA and enjoying the familiar feeling of living in the Midwest again. Definitely ready to start work, helping moms and babies with breastfeeding - meeting them wherever they are in their journey. The greater Milwaukee area offers a wealth of baby-friendly support, and I am glad to be a part of it.

Well, it has finally happened: My family is moving back to the USA after nearly ten years of living in the UK. We are headed to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where I will continue to work and volunteer to help mothers and babies accomplish their breastfeeding goals. I will also be studying and taking the IBLCE exam required to keep current as an IBCLC. Stay tuned for my revamped page and website to appear in May!

Why Your Baby's Sleep Matters

I'm never afraid to say it, and I couldn't care less about the politics: co-sleeping is crucial to the health and well being of babies and young children around the world and always has been. Studies like this need to be out in the open, shared, and recognised for the health implications they address. Breastfeeding and gentle parenting are at the top of the list when trying to raise healthy, safe families and children. Co-sleeping is part of this. Parents deserve to trust their instincts and not have decades of mis-information spewed at them from every direction, which is now what we and our healthcare systems are trying to recover from - and return to NORMAL practices.
