A cover-up that spanned four US Presidents and pushed the country's first female newspaper publisher and her editor into an unprecedented battle between the press and the government. Starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg's The Post (cert. 12A) is up for the Best Film and Best Actress Oscars (Streep's 21st nomination at the Awards!) - and it's showing here at 6pm tonight (Sunday) and 11am & 7:30pm on Monday! Did you know - Steven Spielberg wanted to have this film released as quickly as possible given the parallels between its theme and the burgeoning political 'fake news' climate in the US. According to Meryl Streep, the physical shoot started in May 2017 and finished at the end of July, and Spielberg had it cut two weeks later, an unprecedented feat. The gestation from script to final cut lasted a modest 9 months.
Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks - now that's a winning combination, and you can see all three at work in The Post (cert. 12A)! The drama is up for the Best Film and Best Actress Oscars (Streep's 21st nomination at the Awards!) next week, but even with that pedigree can it possibly beat such tough competition as Three Billboards? Come and judge for yourself - it's showing in the Phoenix at 6pm tonight (Saturday), 6pm Sunday and 11am & 7:30pm on Monday Did you know - In all of the scenes depicting President Nixon on the phone in the Oval Office, Nixon's actual voice is heard from White House tapes. In scenes involving the Pentagon Papers, Daniel Ellsberg's original documents were used as genuine props, including the pages that were scattered over the floor of Benjamin C. Bradlee (Tom Hanks)' home.
A treat for the eyes, ears and heart, Coco (cert. PG) won the Best Animated Feature at last weekend's BAFTAs, and the Golden Globe in January - will it make it a hat trick at next weekend's Oscar ceremony? Come see why everyone loves it so much - shows are at 1pm (3D) TODAY (Saturday) and 3pm on Sunday! Did you know - Being a Pixar film, there are plenty of hidden “easter eggs” in Coco. When Miguel is walking down the streets at the beginning of the movie, you can spot piñatas of some Pixar characters: Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Mike Wazowski among others. Also, the door to the office in The Land of the Dead is labelled with the famous 'A113', named after the California Institute of Arts classroom where many members of Disney and Pixar studied.

Happy Film Friday! This week we're giving away two tickets to see critically acclaimed comedy, The Disaster Artist (cert. 15) - which is screening as part of our Phoenix Fringe programme next Thursday! Up for for the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar and winner of the Best Actor Golden Globe for James Franco, who also directed, it tells the story of the making of 2003 film The Room, hailed as the ‘Citizen Kane’ of bad movies! Did you know - To promote this film, the distributor rented the same billboard on Highland Avenue in Los Angeles that Tommy Wiseau rented for five years to promote The Room, mimicking the layout and including a phone number to RSVP to screenings. James Franco actually recalled driving in Los Angeles after 2003 and seeing the original billboard - he said he initially thought it might be for a cult, because of the phone number. The phone number would go to Wiseau's apartment and there was a recording promoting the film, or he would sometimes answer and tell the caller when and where it was playing. The Disaster Artist (cert. 15) is showing in the Phoenix at 1pm & 8:45pm on Thursday 1 March. To be in with a chance of winning the tickets you know what to do, like and share this post and comment below! Competition closes at 9am on Monday 26th February. Good luck!
“I've got the guts to die. What I want to know is, have you got the guts to live?” Don't miss the National Theatre’s critically acclaimed Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (cert. 15) - TONIGHT at 7pm! Starring Sienna Miller and Jack O’Connell, Tennessee Williams’ twentieth century masterpiece was recorded during a strictly limited season in London’s Young Vic in 2017. To whet your appetite, here's what the press said about the show: ★★★★ - Sienna Miller and Jack O'Connell get to a raw and naked truth. - Metro ★★★★ - A bold reimagining. Innovative and powerfully acted. - Sunday Times ★★★★ - A brilliant, lacerating account of the play... unforgettable. - Independent This thrilling revival burns bright enough to scorch. - New York Times
TODAY is your last chance to see the film critics are already calling the best film of 2018. The multi-award winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri (cert. 15) is showing today (Thursday) at 4:15pm. Trust us, you don’t want to miss it! Winner of Best Leading Actress at Sunday night’s Bafta Awards, Frances McDormand was hesitant to take the role when it was offered, but was eventually convinced by her husband, Joel Coen: "Because at the time he gave it to me I was 58... I was concerned that women from this socioeconomic strata did not wait until 38 to have their first child. So we went back and forth and we debated that quite for a while, and then finally my husband said, 'Just shut up and do it." and aren’t we glad she did.
