THE NIGHTJAR...... This is probably the best bird I have ever seen let alone photographed. An extremely rare nocturnal migrant that is seldom heard and very rarely ever seen. Its camaflauge is something else, this cannot be said to be like looking for a needle in a haystack.... Its 1000 times more difficult than that. Between me and the guy I owe all this to we both have a combined 100 plus years of birding experience between us and this bird is our 1st ever sighting. So on that note a huge thanks goes out to Nigel Miller for making this unforgettable experience happen. I owe you a half pint mate Thanks again ;) PS We were discussing running this as a workshop, but we decided that we didnt want to cause anymore disturbance than was neccessary so please do not message him and try your luck. RIP to Mark Hancox.....after a hell of a fight I was sad to hear he has passed away. Mark was a pioneer in UK Wildlife photography hides and a real inspiration for me. If it wasn't for him and Danny Green taking me on board a few years ago I wouldn't be doing what I am today. We unfortunately had a fall out a few years later, but a long phone call out the blue a few months ago put it all behind us. My condolences go out to all his family and all those close to him. All of us in this game owe him more than we realise...a man years ahead of the game. Attached am image that blew my mind many years ago taken by Mark . RIP at least now the suffering has gone ... Once again a huge thanks goes to Mr Sparrowhawk himself Ian Todd for allowing me the oppurtunity to photograph one of my fave birds at the nest. No one knows more than me the work from start to finish that goes into these projects and the least I can do is give credit where its due. All to often I see the work I do being worded by other photographers in images taken at my hides in a way to deceive that it was them that did the groundwork. Now dont get me wrong, as paying clients they are under no obligation to credit me, but when they make it out to be themselves that have done it all it is rather annoying and does nothing but make themselves look stupid and a bit desperate. I just wanted to get that off my chest as there has been quite a few this year ;)
